Anthony L. Cannon is a founding principal of Cannon & Nelms, APC. Mr. Cannon has served as lead trial counsel in numerous multi-million dollar jury trials in state and federal courts across the country. Mr. Cannon’s extensive trial practice has included matters involving insurance coverage and bad faith; unfair and/or deceptive business practices; automobile liability resulting in severe bodily injuries, traumatic brain injuries and wrongful death; products liability; hillside failures and consequent property damages; premises liability; arson; insurance fraud; toxic mold; Insurance Agent/Broker negligence or malfeasance; disputes between insurers involving contribution, indemnity or subrogation; disputes related to the rights, duties and liabilities of primary and excess insurers to their common insured and one another; copyright, trademark and patent infringement; food borne illness arising from E.coli, Salmonella and Listeria contamination; crop recall litigation; pollution claims; disputes between manufacturers and distributors over contract and trademark rights in foreign countries; wrongful termination and sexual harassment litigation, and real property matters.

Mr. Cannon served as coordinating counsel for a major national insurer that received more than 1000 fire damage claims in the 2003 and 2007 San Diego, California wildfire events. Mr. Cannon successfully defended the more than 100 insurance bad faith; unfair practices and fraud cases he litigated for various insurers after these wildfires.  Mr. Cannon also successfully defended the Chairman, CEO and other claims agents of a large national insurer who were sued in a civil RICO action in federal court.  Mr. Cannon obtained a defense verdict for a prominent farming enterprise in the Salinas Valley that was sued for approximately 5 million dollars based on false allegations of E.coli 0157:H7 contamination of a lettuce crop.  Mr. Cannon’s client was awarded and recovered all of its attorney fees, expert witness fees and costs of suit after this lengthy jury trial.

Mr. Cannon is a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA) which is a prestigious, invitation-only organization comprised of attorneys who have successfully tried numerous jury trials while demonstrating excellence and professionalism. Mr. Cannon is admitted to practice law in California, the District of Columbia, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court.

Prior to entering the practice of law, Mr. Cannon was an insurance adjuster and claim manager for approximately seventeen (17) years.  Mr. Cannon is frequently retained as an insurance practices and claims handling expert in insurance bad faith litigation and he has provided expert testimony on numerous occasions in state and federal courts across the country.  Mr. Cannon has also been retained by insurers to draft and revise insurance policy forms, including endorsements and exclusions.
